Where Do I Mail My Chapter 13 Plan Payment in Dc, Md and Va?

Lee Legal Team

Once your Chapter 13 bankruptcy has been filed, you will make your Chapter 13 Plan payments directly to the trustee for several months. Your first Plan payment must be made no later than 30 days from the date that your case is filed. Once your Plan has been confirmed, usually three to five months later, automatic deductions will commence. But until then, you must send a check to the trustee each month. So where do I mail my Chapter 13 plan payments in DC, MD and VA?

Form and timing of Chapter 13 Plan payments

Chapter 13 Plan payments can be made by personal check, cashier’s check, or money order. Do not send cash to the trustee. They do not like that.

The trustees also do not like checks returned NSF, or Not Sufficient Funds. Especially early on in a case, bounced checks do not bode well for a five-year repayment plan. Missed Plan payments may result in the dismissal of your case.

Be sure to put your case number in the memo line of the check. Make the check payable to the individual trustee’s name.

Plan payments are administered through the trustee’s clearinghouse in Memphis, so be sure to send your payment early enough to allow it to post on time.
